Language | first: 2011-11-16 |
As language is the most basic tool of philosophy it is appropriate to define the applied view on this tool as a basic concept.
This section only defines kind of a summary of the more detailes analyses in the section philosophy of language and the choices, out of a range of theories and positions, made in this website.
The starting point here is that language first and for all should be considered as The communication tool of mankind. As a consequence I am less interested in the technicalities of language, but more in the relations to thinking, meaning, world and communication in context aspects.
The diagram at the right visualizes the place of meaning
in a field surrounded by Cognition, Language, World and Context. The horizontal relation Language - Meaning - World is similar to the concept introduced by Frege who distinguished the Sinn of a language from the relation with the world: the indication (Frege: Bedeutung) That the meaning of language is related to the context is generally accepted, but the dynamics, even during a conversation, can only be understood in relation with complex cognitive processes. |

The complexity and dynamics of these interrelations requires attention in most philosophical analyses.
